NASHVILLE (Top40 Charts) - P.O.D. doesn't always play up its Christian aspects, but that didn't stop the hard rock group from getting three nominations for the Gospel Music Association's Dove Awards - including Artist of the Year. Finalists were announced Wednesday (Jan. 23) morning in Nashville.

P.O.D. also received nominations for Group of the Year and Song of the Year for the GRAMMY-nominated single "Alive." In the Artist of the Year category, the band goes up against last year's winner Third Day, Steven Curtis Chapman, Nicole C. Mullen, and Michael W. Smith.

Chapman, Mullen, Rebecca St. James, and Toby McKeehan of dc Talk, meanwhile, each received eight nominations. Third Day, Kirk Franklin, Selah, and newcomer Shaun Groves also received multiple nominations. Besides P.O.D., other acts not typically associated with Christian music who picked up nominations included Johnny Cash, Lou Rawls, Jill Scott, Ann-Margret, and Mannheim Steamroller.

The 33rd Annual Dove Awards will be held April 25 at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville.
