Jill Scott will perform on the season opener of Sesame Street February 4 on PBS. The children's show, which has remained popular for many years, is entering its 33rd season. Scott latest release, Experience:
Jill Scott (826 Plus), a live album sprinkled with several new songs, has sold more than 250,000 copies since its November release.
Scott should find her time with the Sesame Street Muppets rather lighthearted compared to her encounters with some of the difficult males she's met while in the music industry. When LAUNCH caught up with Scott, who spent the majority of 2001 touring, she shared some of the challenges that she has faced in the male-dominated industry. "More than anything else, I've had to be forthright. I've had to really sometimes get down and dirty, sometimes even nasty, you know, because men tend not to listen. Particularly musicians-when you don't read music and you can't really express, you know, if it's decrescendo or modulation or what, you know, so I had to learn a lot in order to be able to communicate those things," she said.
In related news, Scott will head out on an European tour in February, with stops planned in the U.K., the Netherlands, France, and Belgium.
