NEW YORK (AP) - As U2 works on new material in Dublin and prepares for February performances at the Super Bowl and at the Winter Olympic Games, frontman Bono is off to Africa this week to speak with government leaders and activists about worldwide debt relief for impoverished nations. Bono will address a summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) today (January 14) in Blantyre, Malawi.

According to the charity Oxfam International, Bono and Harvard University economist Jeffrey Sachs will encourage the leaders to use any monies they save in the debt-relief movement to fight AIDS, famine, and poverty in their region.

On Tuesday (January 15), Bono and Sachs travel to Lilongwe, Malawi's capital, to discuss a new World Health Organization report that finds increased health spending in poor countries will indeed help to improve the economies in those areas.
