Although he new nothing about the art of being a disc jockey, music seemed to control his life. 1997 was the year it all began, he learned the art of mixing and blending records together. His name started out as DJ Skinny. He started working the local party scene which lead him to Djing at weddings and various types of events. While attending high school Kendrick met a close friend Paul Carter who happen to be mixing at his high school party and he allowed him to display his talent to his fellow classmates. From this point on a Starr was born. Kendrick and Paul decided to team up and become business partners. After partnering with Paul Kendrick began networking with other DJ's. Remaining humble and focused helped Kendrick creatively perfect his craft. Because of this he was chosen to open up for top DJ's still having little experience in the business. In 1998 (high school years) he was introduced to NSBE, but he joined his freshmen year at Morgan State. It was not until 2001 when he really began to work the club circuit. The owners of this club liked his style so much that they wanted to have his name in lights. The owner asked Kendrick how he got a name like DJ Skinny. His response was "it's a childhood name from my neighborhood and it just stuck with me." The owner's response was, "well being that we want to put your name in lights DJ Skinny might not be the right name for you. This caused Kendrick to rethink his Djing career as DJ Skinny. Many suggestions were made as to what his new name should be, and one day he was driving and it hit him. DJ Skinny said to himself "5 Starr, like a 5 Star Hotel, like a 5 Star Dealership. These are top shelf companies and he felt he had grown to be a top shelf DJ. He felt since his friends named him DJ Skinny, he would name himself DJ 5 Starr. In addition the owner really liked the name and he played so well that someone called him The General. That name rings bells he responded. DJ 5 Starr The General sounds lovely he thought to himself. DJ 5 Starr has carried this title for Four years now and many can say he wears his hat well. In spite of 5 Starr success over the years he still remains humble because he's always open to learning more. DJ 5 Starr has been a member of NSBE for 6 years now. In 6 years he has played at two fall conferences, and march of this year he was the DJ for the national conference that had over 10,000 students attend. In the last year 5 Starr has learned the difference between a DJ and an Entertainer. A DJ plays music and a Entertainer rocks the crowd An entertainer also knows how to control a party with the microphone while mixing records. 5 Starr ability to do this shows he has graduated from being a DJ and is an Entertainer now. The wide range of music that he can mix and blend together is beyond believable. 5 Starr DJ's for all ages, various types of events and plays all genres of music. He also knows what to say on the Mic. to capture the partygoers attention and make sure everyone is having a great time. DJ 5starr The General = Mr. Entertainer of Baltimore and Beyond. He does more than just play music. DJ 5 Starr currently works at one of the largest clubs in the state of Maryland (Hammerjacks).
