NEW YORK (INTERSCHOOL ORCHESTRAS OF NEW YORK) - The InterSchool Orchestras of New York (ISO) will sponsor a master class with 22-year old German violinist Julia Fischer on Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at 5:30 PM at the Julia Richman Education Complex, 317 East 67th Street. She will be introduced by radio personality Gregg Whiteside. This event is free and open to the public.
Ms. Fischer comes to ISO after Operations Manager David Roth discovered a recording of the virtuoso violinist, heard her perform with the New York Philharmonic and invited her to present a master class for ISO. Ms. Fischer will be in New York performing the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with the Philharmonic. She will coach two finalists in the 2006 Constance Mensch Concerto Competition. These teenage violinists are members of the ISO Symphony, an accomplished, advanced youth orchestra in New York City.
Julia Fischer is among the top violin soloists performing for audiences around the globe today. Reviewers have described her as 'not a talent, but a full-fledged phenomenal violinist.' Ms. Fischer has worked with such internationally acclaimed conductors as Lorin Maazel, Christoph Eschenbach, Yakov Kreizberg, Sir Neville Mariner, David Inman, and Michael Tilson Thomas, and with a variety of top orchestras around the world. She made her Philharmonic debut in 1999 and Carnegie Hall debut in 2003. Ms. Fischer was born in 1983 in Munich, Germany. At the age of nine she was admitted to the Munich Academy of Music, where she continues to study with Ana Chumachenco. Her active repertoire spans from Bach to Penderecki, from Vivaldi to Shostakovitch, containing over 40 works with orchestra and about 60 works of chamber music. Ms. Fischer's violin is of Italian origin, made by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini in 1750.
The ISO Symphony, a talented youth orchestra, is comprised of seventy young musicians from public and independent schools in the metropolitan area. The Symphony is a full scholarship ensemble and performs in a variety of venues, including Symphony Space, Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. Outreach and community concerts take Symphony members to such places as Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Brooklyn, St. Michael's Church in Litchfield, Connecticut, the Stanley Isaacs Neighborhood House in Manhattan, Mary Queen of Heaven Church in Brooklyn and the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx. The Symphony is coached each year by members of the New York Philharmonic and frequently by the London Symphony Orchestra. Most concerts are free or very low cost. The season will conclude with a benefit concert at Alice Tully Hall, June 1, 2006.
The InterSchool Orchestras of New York (ISO) is a youth orchestra and music education program consisting of five orchestras, a symphonic band, and a chamber music program for players, ages 6-19, at all levels.
