New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Songwriter and storyteller Son Stone is set to release his deeply textured new album, Dime Store Mannequin, on May 26, 2025. A genre-blending collection of 9 original songs recorded at Milan Hill Studio near Woodstock, NY, the album was produced by three-time GRAMMY winner Justin Guip and explores the raw edges of the human experience—through bourbon-soaked romances, disillusioned dreams, wayward vice, and even biblical sacrifice.
With its mix of alt-folk, rock, country, and psychedelic blues, Dime Store Mannequin offers an emotionally resonant ride from track to track. Each song is performed by Son Stone and his full band, with a lush sonic palette that includes acoustic and electric guitars, Hammond B3 organ, MOOG synths, and fingerstyle folk textures.
The album kicks off with the country-tinged "Old Fashioned," a sultry love song "one part passion and three parts alcohol." From there, Son Stone turns his eye to the highs and lows of love and longing—like on "A Lot Too
Little and a
Little Too Late," a slow-burning rock ballad full of regret and searing solos, and "You Belong," a pure rock anthem penned for his beloved dog, Lottie.
There's humor and heartbreak, often in the same breath. "Hangin' on the Vine" anthropomorphizes the wine-making process, voiced by a bitter grape. In "Truth Be Told," an outlaw confesses his sins of gambling and deception, while "Jelly Ain't My Jam" veers into funk-blues with trippy, acid-laced storytelling.
Spiritual themes also surface. "Abraham" reimagines the harrowing biblical story from the eyes of Isaac, revealing a rupture in fatherly love that never heals.
