New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Today, in the midst of a national spring tour with Hermanos Gutiérrez, Adrian Quesadahas joined forces with the Swiss-Ecuadorian duo to release a mind-bending new single. Out now on ATO Records, "Primos" is a hypnotic, suspenseful and groove-heavy song, suffused with feelings of the spaghetti westerns and Southwestern sceneries and that have long inspired Quesada's signature style of Latin music. Born from improvisation, and manifested by a telepathic bond that formed between the three supernatural musicians, it is the latest look into the collaborative world the GRAMMY-winner and OSCAR nominee has built on his forthcoming album, Boleros Psicodélicos II (June 27 / ATO Records). When speaking about the track's genesis, Quesada says, "Hermanos Gutiérrez and I have a deep connection which feels like family, so the song is called 'Primos' (cousins). They came to South by Southwest, and we spent a day in the studio recording some ideas. We did this one from scratch, just jamming on the floor together."
Furthermore, Estevan and Alejandro from Hermanos Gutiérrez add that they felt an instant connection with Adrian Quesada. They invited him to their first show in Austin in November 2022, and from there, a friendship quickly blossomed. Collaborating on a track together became only a matter of time. "Adrian Quesada's Boleros Psicodélicos is a truly beautiful album," they said. "Being part of Volume 2 with our track 'Primos' is an incredible honor."
Out June 27th on ATO Records, Boleros Psicodélicos II deepens Quesada's enduring mission to celebrate, preserve and reimagine the eccentric and unsung style of Latin American balada music that first emerged in the late 1960s and early 1970s, but has influenced and enamored Quesada and countless others for decades. As the sequel to 2022's beloved Boleros Psicodélicos, Boleros Psicodélicos II "confirms his role as a sonic alchemist of unparalleled vision" (Billboard), and arrives on the heels of a 2025 Academy Award nomination for the Texas producer, composer, multi-instrumentalist and Black Pumas co-founder - further showing how he has "raised the bar for Latin alternative artistry" (Los Angeles Times).
"Primos" follows lead single "Ojos Secos" (feat. Cuco), and the recently released "No Juego" (feat. Angélica Garcia), which "inhabits a twilight zone where old school hip-hop beats and trip-hop atmospherics collide into a melodramatic song, like an '80s power ballad produced by the RZA" (Remezcla). Produced by Adrian Quesada and Alex Goose (Aaron Frazer, Childish Gambino), Boleros Psicodélicos II also features a stacked cast of Latin vocalists and visionaries whose work spans cultures, countries and generations: Chilean singer and songwriter Gepe, Cuban singer Daymé Arocena, Colombian gypsy-jazz combo Monsieur Periné, Chihuahua lo-fi troubadour Ed Maverick, Puerto Rican vocalist and former Calle 13 member iLe and more, as it highlights the many ways in which Quesada acts as "a wizard of just finding the magical little sauce of each artist, and bringing it to the fore" (NPR's Alt.Latino).
In addition to his current tour with Hermanos Gutiérrez, which just this month brought him and his Trio Asesino to Miami Beach's Fillmore and Austin's ACL Live, and will soon head to Los Angeles' Greek Theatre, Adrian Quesada has also just announced a pair of headline shows in support of Boleros Psicodélicos II. At Celebrate Brooklyn's Prospect Park on August 8th, and the Washington State Fair on September 1st, Quesada will be backed by an all-star band and an array of vocalists from Boleros Psicodélicos II, with more dates to be revealed.
