LOS ANGELES (CITY CANYONS RECORDS) - City Canyons Records has seen the future of independent music and a substantial part of that future is podcasting. A large part of the independent label's strategy in promoting its most current releases has been through working with this exciting technology. City Canyons' foray into the new technology has included numerous podcasts of music from its most current release, 'slowburn' by ANEMO and participation in a very special podcast of music from another recent release,' Enter the Mysterium' by
Peter Ulrich.
For the uninitiated, in simple terms, podcasts are similar to radio shows which can be downloaded directly into an iPod (or most other personal mp3 players, or a PC) and enjoyed later at the listener's leisure. Podcasts are becoming a hugely popular new way of discovering new music, or of tuning into specialist broadcasts catering for specific tastes. Podcasts are essentially global radio on demand whenever and wherever the listener wants it.
As part of City Canyons Records' podcast efforts, ANEMO'S music has charted as among the top ten tunes being offered by podcasters (PMC Top Ten at https://www.podmusiccountdown.com/archives/2005/10/pmc_top10_10150.html) and has been featured on podcasts including but not limited to PromoPicker, the Podsafe Music Network, SOMACast, AccidentHash, James Naughton, Tiny Binary Life, Reaching for Lucidity, Aardvark's Nest, Daily Journal Podcast, Zaldor's World Podcast, DeFi Radio, MWS Podcast, BitJobs for the Masses ,Music for Jerks, MostlyTunes.com, Is This Thing On, RockCast Italia, Things Reunited, Radio Free Cruze, For What It's Worth and Mindless Rambling.
"Podcasting is a fantastic opportunity for bands to promote their music and be involved with an exciting underground music scene. The great thing about podcasts is the enormous variety of shows, which offer a staggering choice compared to terrestrial radio stations. The name "podcast" is actually a bit of a misnomer, because you might think you need an iPod to listen. In most cases, you can download and listen to podcasts on any computer/platform with a standard mp3 player. There's an element of 'Guerilla Radio' about podcasting, because it's about everyday people and their passion for all types of music, not big corporations out to make money, " says Matt Palmer who is one third of the creative core of ANEMO consisting of Palmer, Hazelle Woodhurst and Kingsley Sage.
Peter Ulrich's foray into broadcasting is his current appearance on Projekt Podkast, a podcast of the famous darkwave record label, Projekt Records.
