Foo Fighters 29 Songs Into Fourth Album

NEW YORK (AP) - The Foo Fighters have recorded 29 songs for their upcoming fourth RCA album at frontman Dave Grohl's home studio in Virginia, according to a post on the band's official Web site. "There are lots of new songs to choose from," Grohl reports of the set, due in mid-2002, adding, "We've just really started getting into it, picking ones with the most potential first."

Disclosing working titles like "Halo," "Gun Beside My Bed," "New Wave," "Bottomed Out," and "The One," Grohl writes, "Sometimes the weird [songs] sneak up on you at the last minute, so it's always best to take a stab at every one of them." Elsewhere, Grohl hinted at a possible first single, saying, "I think that 'The One' will be hitting radio stations soon ... maybe make a video soon to boot."

Of the sessions, drummer Taylor Hawkins states, "So far I'm over the top with excitement. There is one track tentatively titled 'All My Life' which is so far my personal favorite ever. I can't wait for you all to hear it."

"Dave is writing wonderful masterpieces as usual," Hawkins continues. "[Guitarist] Chris Shifflett will definitely play a large part in broadening the sound of our band on this album and Nate [Mendel] is coming up with the weirdest bass lines possible in rock'n'roll. We are more united as a band than we've ever been."

Hawkins also says he's feeling much better following a rumored overdose in August during the band's European tour. "I am alive and well. I was a bit ill, as I'm sure a lot of you know, but as of now I'm feeling better than I have in years," he declares.

The Foos reworked a four-year-old B-side, "Make a Bet," into the track "Win or Lose," which will be featured on the RCA soundtrack to the film "Out Cold." The album is due Nov. 20; the film hits theaters the following day.
