New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The uplifting sounds of D:Ream return with their first new material in over a decade when �Meet Me At Midnight� is released on 16th April. A retro-fitted house tune, with dreamlike vocals and cheeky lyrics set atop a blaze of programmed drums and synths, �Meet Me At Midnight� is a hopeful tune which will see us out of lockdown and onto the dancefloor!
D:Ream returned to the public consciousness during the pandemic when their hit song, �Things Can Only Get Better� became an anthem for Nottingham�s residents as they blasted it when clapping for key workers each week. The song could be heard more than two miles away. D:Ream frontman Pete Cunnah was sent a video of the song being played in Nottingham by a friend. "I got shivers. I just couldn't believe what I was hearing," he told BBC
Radio Nottingham. "You do your thing and make a record for all the clubbers in the early 90s to dance to, and the next thing everyone's hanging out of windows singing it during a crisis. I was in tears."
Wind your clocks back to the 90s, and you probably had D:Ream stuck in your head, even if you didn�t know it was them. �Things Can Only Get Better� was the political anthem which New Labour chose to soundtrack their path to victory, and D:Ream captured the attention and hope of a generation of voters, as well as helped to galvanise the nation towards a more positive mindset. Cunnah himself said that the song �captured the prevailing winds of change�. It seems fitting that this is the band to whom we return in the midst of global upheaval and national apathy.
Formed by DJ Alan Mckenzie and singer-songwriter Pete Cunnah in early 1990, D:Ream are one of the UK�s most successful house music acts. Now, after a 14-year long hiatus, the duo have been back in the studio working on new material which is set for release in the summer - just in time for (fingers crossed) nightclubs to re-open!
With songs like �Don�t Let the Bastards Grind You Down� and �Make Love Cool Again� peppering the rest of Open Hearts, Open Minds, it�s clear that this band�s mindset has not changed much since the first go-around, with the message of strength and resistance against misery and boredom. With beats to dance to and lyrics of encouragement and hope for a better life, it�s clear that this album really couldn�t come along at a better time. The album as a whole is a throwback to a time of simpler production, a more raw and authentic feeling behind the music and an irrepressible British spirit. Open Hearts, Open Minds is the album which is going to take us back to the clubs and a summer filled with joy, music and dancing!
