SYDNEY, Australia (SONY BMG
Music Australia) - Get ready to howl like a wolf -
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are releasing their third and finest album to date on
September 4. 'Howl' is 13 tracks of raw Americana incorporating traditional elements of twang, blues, folk and soul and damn is it good!
BRMC have stripped down their sound and are heading back to their roots with their third LP, 'Howl'. There's been a marked shift in the sound created by the three-piece -
Peter Hayes, Robert Levon Been and Nick Jago - on the follow-up to 2003's 'Take Them On, On Your Own'.
Written mainly on acoustic guitar, you can literally hear the country and folk music Peter Hayes was reared on. Ultimately, though, it has to be understood that BRMC is a band that wholeheartedly believes in rock 'n' roll and everything that goes along with it - the saving grace, the excess and the exquisite burn.
The experience of the past year - the highs and lows, the tumult and triumph - has only strengthened the guys' understanding of the precious human chemistry that occurs among the great rock groups, and that same unique power that exists between them.
In content and form, the 13 songs on 'Howl' are as far removed from BRMC's previous albums - partly by design, partly because of the process - as they could be. So it's pretty safe to say that coming up with adjectives to describe the album is pretty challenging!
Perhaps the best and most accurate way to describe 'Howl' is simply to say that it's a line of demarcation in the band's catalogue. It's the same line that the Stones drew with 'Beggars Banquet' and that the Clash drew with 'London Calling'. It's both a summation and a turning point, a nod to the past and a look into the future as well.
The fabulous BRMC have visited Australia twice in support of their previous albums, and we're crossing our fingers and toes that the guys will pay us another visit to show off 'Howl' really soon. We'll keep you posted on the latest news right here...
