NEW YORK (AP) - After a well-deserved rest in the wake of the extensive promotional activity that followed 1999's Arista album "Supernatural," Santana has scheduled a slate of European tour dates for late May and early June. The itinerary kicks off May 16 at Copenhagen's Parken Stadium, and concludes June 9 at London's Crystal Palace.

The band and its namesake, Carlos Santana, have been in the studio working on the follow-up to "Supernatural," due to be released sometime in 2002. "So far the recording sessions are going great," Santana's official Web site reports. "The band is writing, developing, and recording new song ideas and some songs that have already been road tested."

Carlos Santana appears on Michael Jackson's recently released studio album "Invincible" (Epic). He also took part in the recording of the Jackson-led charity single "What More Can I Give?"

Last month saw an increase in Carlos' activity outside of the studio. He took two days to shoot a video with the Product G&B for the track "Dirty Dancing," on which he guests. The song appears on the duo's long delayed J Records album, "Ghetto & Blues," due Feb. 19. It was the Product G&B's vocals that were heard on the "Supernatural" hit "Maria Maria," which topped The Billboard Hot 100 last year.

Santana also joined Widespread Panic onstage for the band's second set Oct. 14 in Berkeley, Calif., and took part in the San Francisco Jazz Festival's 75th anniversary birthday tribute to John Coltrane on Oct. 24.

Here are Santana's European tour dates:

May 16: Copenhagen (Parken Stadium)
May 17: Nurburgring, Germany (Rock Am Ring)
May 18: Nuremberg, Germany (Rock Im Park)
May 24: Gelsenkirchen, Germany (Arena Auf Schalke)
May 26: Hannover, Germany (Niedersachsenstadion)
May 28: Berlin (Waldbuhne)
May 31: Leipzig, Germany (Festweise)
June 2: Zurich (Letzigrund Stadium)
June 4: Budapest (Kisstadion)
June 5: Vienna (Schloss Schonbrunn)
June 9: London (Crystal Palace)
