LONDON, UK (Edinburgh
Music Co./ www.edinburghmusic.com) - The Czech
National Symphony Orchestra conducted by
America Maestro Paul Freeman will premiere the third movement from Scottish composer
Stuart Mitchell's brand new "Seven Wonders Suite for Orchestra" in the prestigious Dvorak Hall at the Rudolfinum, Prague, concert date November 9, 2005.
After 15 years in the making, Edinburgh-born Stuart Mitchell (b.1965) releases his debut Symphonic work "Seven Wonders Suite for Orchestra." The musical works were inspired by the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and written for full symphony orchestra and chorus. The suite lasts 55 minutes and is the most significant music yet written by a Scottish composer to receive a public performance by a world-class orchestra.
"Seven Wonders'" captivating melodies and rich orchestration first attracted the attention of the Czech National Symphony Orchestra during recording sessions in November 2004. CNSO Director and founder Jan Hasenohrl, together with Chief Conductor Paul Freeman, have especially chosen the "Colossus of Rhodes" movement to open their second concert during the orchestra's 13th season.
Paul Freeman, a conductor of world renown who has conducted over 100 orchestras in 28 different countries, joined the CNSO in 1996. He is accompanied by conductors Sir Libor Pesek and Marcello Rota in delivering a season of eight concerts featuring the music of Rachmaninoff, Tchaikowsky, Rossini and Mozart.
The second concert of the season sees Stuart Mitchell's music performed alongside David N. Baker's "Trombone Concerto" and Johannes Brahm's "Symphony No.1." The concert takes place in the City of Prague's historic Dvorak Hall in the Rudolfinum.
Mitchell comments, "This music is a celebration of human artistic endeavour. After a 1000 year absence, these great monuments are brought to life again through the power of music and the imagination of the listener, I am delighted and honoured that the CNSO will be performing my music."
"Seven Wonders Suite for Orchestra" is available on CD in all good record stores from July 1st, 2005 or online at www.edinburghmusic.com.
