SANTA MONICA, CA. (Recording Academy) - The GRAMMY Foundation's inaugural GRAMMY Camp, sponsored by Shure Incorporated, launches on July 30, 2005, at Citrus College in Glendora, Calif. The GRAMMY Foundation will select 60 high school students from across the country to participate in this extensive learning experience.
GRAMMY Camp, a nine-day, hands-on instruction course, connects students with the industry's leading music professionals and college instructors to explore careers in writing, recording, performing and other music fields. Boasting an innovative and largely interactive curriculum, the experience promises to provide a tangible demonstration of the exciting career opportunities available to them. World-renowned microphone and audio electronics manufacturer Shure Incorporated has partnered with the GRAMMY Foundation to ensure students are part of an unforgettable musical and educational journey.

Students interested in GRAMMY Camp can download the application at www.grammyintheschools.com or contact the GRAMMY Foundation at 800-423-2017, ext. 8661. Scholarships also are available to those who adequately demonstrate financial need. As enrollment is limited, students are encouraged to act now. All applications must be received by June 17, 2005.

"GRAMMY Camp is an exciting new initiative for the Foundation that complements our portfolio of valuable music education programs," said Neil Portnow, President of the GRAMMY Foundation. "The students will have access to some of the best minds in the business as they gain real-world, hands-on exposure while learning skills that will enhance their musical talents - all in a week filled with the power of music."

GRAMMY Camp faculty will be comprised of an esteemed group of music business and recording faculty from the host institution, Citrus College, and will include GRAMMY-winning and nominated professionals with membership ties to The Recording Academy. This parallel approach to instruction will provide students with both academic and real-world applications to sufficiently prepare them for career opportunities down the line.

Key areas of instruction include audio engineering, music business, film/television scoring and arranging, performance, and songwriting. Program highlights feature one-on-one time in studio sessions, master classes, specialized clinics, question-and-answer sessions with industry professionals and a field trip, but the ultimate experience upon completion of the course will be their active participation in a concert showcase.

The GRAMMY Foundation was established in 1989 to cultivate the understanding, appreciation and advancement of the contribution of recorded music on American culture - from the artistic and technical legends of the past to the still unimagined musical breakthroughs of future generations of music professionals. The Foundation accomplishes this mission through programs and activities that engage the music industry and cultural community as well as the general public.
The Foundation works in partnership year-round with The Recording Academy to bring national attention to important issues such as the value and impact of music and arts education and the urgency of preserving our rich cultural heritage.
