New York, NY (Top40 Charts) David Byrne's American Utopia on Broadway was given a Special Citation at the New York Drama Critics Circle Awards ceremony, held via a special episode of Stars in the House tonight, which you can watch below. David Byrne was presented the citation by John Mulaney, who calls American Utopia "the greatest live show of any kind I've ever seen."

Mulaney goes on to say: "The show is especially poignant right now because everything's poignant right now but also because the show is a story ... It tells the story of moving from isolation to community ... At the end, we truly believe and were immersed in the story of someone, like all of us, who hope that the best days are ahead of us for the entire country and the entire world ... It is a fantastic show, and it has brought me a lot of joy."
"It's hard to imagine what the old world was like, now that we're in a new world," says Byrne. "Someday, we'll be in an even newer world, where we'll have learned things, and we will recapture some of what we used to be, and we'll become something better and different in this newer, newer world. We're all looking forward to that and wondering when it's gonna happen. It will, I'm sure it will." He recognizes his many collaborators on the project and conludes: "This is a really flattering and very exciting thing to be acknowleged in this way. Thank you all."

David Byrne's American Utopia is due to return to Broadway's intimate Hudson Theatre for a second run this fall. The cast album is available via Nonesuch Records. Spike Lee's film of the production is due to be released later this year.

Stars in the House is a daily broadcast hosted by Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley to benefit The Actors Fund. For more on the show, to watch past episodes, and to donate, visit starsinthehouse.com.
