NEW YORK (135th Street Agency) - Celebrating June as Black Music Month, BET Jazz will broadcast Sounds of Harlem, a salute to the musical legacy of New York's culturally rich community of Harlem. Premiering Sunday, June 12, Sounds of Harlem is a one-hour look at the past, present, and future contributions that Harlem has made, and makes, to the foundation of American entertainment.

The broadcast will feature commentary from U.S. Congressman Charles B. Rangel, Apollo Theatre restorer Percy E. Sutton, plus Bill Cosby, Maya Angelou, Wynton Marsalis, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Ed Bradley, Harry Smith, Arthur Mitchell, Joe Sample, Tamara Tunie, Paquito Rivera, Arturo O'Farrill and others. Sounds of Harlem will also show a touching tribute to the late, legendary Tito Puente, in which his children, friends, and band members reunite for a dynamic "jam session."

Sounds of Harlem airs on BET Jazz on June 12th and 26th at 11 a.m., 7 p.m., 1 a.m.; and on June 21st at Noon, 8 PM, and Midnight. Viewers are encouraged to comment on the program by e-mailing [email protected] or by calling (202) 608-2006.
