BOSTON, Mass. (AP) - Weezer bassist Mikey Welsh, who has been mysteriously M.I.A. from the band since August (allstar, Aug. 15 ) due to an undisclosed medical condition, has turned up in recording sessions with ex-Mighty Mighty Bosstones guitarist Nate Albert, according to the Boston Phoenix.

Albert, Welsh, additional bassist Johnny Rioux, and Bosstones drummer Joe Sirois have been holed up in Boston's Wooly Mammoth Studios, jamming on songs Albert has written for an upcoming project called the Brakes. Welsh and Albert had previously worked together as up and coming musicians in Boston before their respective careers took off.

Although the official lineup of the Brakes is still undecided, it would seem at odds with Weezer that Welsh is well enough to jam with a new set of musicians while Weezer has been scouring the road with temporary (or is he?) replacement bassist Scott Shriner.

Spokespeople for Weezer at Geffen Records, who have remained mum on the situation, did not return calls by press time. Meanwhile, Weezer kick off a tour with Tenacious D and Jimmy Eat World on Nov. 13 in Portland, Ore.
