Football Players Who Have Made The Uk Charts
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) We have seen a number of football teams and players release music during their careers to a varying degree of success. During the 80s and 90s, many teams who reached the FA Cup final made a song to mark that, though that trend appears to have slowed down a lot in recent years. Looking back there have been some memorable moments in the chart for footballers, and here are three different songs that have made footballers headline news in the music industry.

#3 1987 - Glen Hoddle and Chris Waddle - Diamond Lights

Glen Hoddle and Chris Waddle were two of the big names in English football during the 80s and early 90s and in 1987 they came together to sing Diamond Lights. The pair were playing together for Tottenham and England at the time and had built up their friendship in football before trying a music career as a duet.

The song reached a chart high position of number 12 but did stay in the charts for eight weeks in total.

#2 1988 - Liverpool Football Club - The Anfield Rap

The Anfield Rap was released by Liverpool football club ahead of their 1988 FA Cup final appearance against Wembley. The song brought together most of the members of the first team to collaborate and bring this song to life.

The song featured Liverpool's most famous sons The Beatles, with the drum beat and singing from Twist and Shout making an appearance part way through the song. It reached a high of number three in the UK charts, and managed to stay in the top 75 for a total of six weeks.

With the success Liverpool are having recently, it wouldn't be a surprise to see them release another song with the players of today. They are dominating domestic and European football, much to the delight of punters backing them. For those looking to get involved in betting on Liverpool there are a number of new betting offers available right now.

#1 1990 - Paul Gascoigne - Fog on the Tyne

When you think of footballers during the 80s and 90s, few are as familiar as Paul Gascoigne. Not always for the right reasons, but Paul hit the headlines on a number of occasions, and was an incredibly talented footballer. He decided to try his hand at signing while playing, which resulted in him releasing two songs.

Fog on the Tyne was certainly the biggest of those, peaking at number two in the UK charts and staying inside for a total of nine weeks, which is very impressive. The track and album of the same name were originally released by rock band Lindisfarne in the 70s, with the album reaching number one.

Being a proud Geordie, Gazza took the song on himself and released a heavily reworked version of it in 1990. He will always be remembered as a great footballer, and nearly managed a number one solo hit to go with that, falling just one place short.
