New York, NY (Top40 Charts) On November 8th, vintage-modern folk trio Lula Wiles will follow up 'What Will We Do,' their 2019 LP that "flipped notions about American folk on its head" (NPR), with a changeup — a critique of dating in the digital age via the up-tempo, jangly and guitar-driven new song "It's Cool (We're Cool, Everything's Cool)." Based on extensive research in the vast Smithsonian Folkways archives, it's believed that this is the first Folkways release in the label's storied 70+ year history to reference smart phones.
Continuing their reputation for creating traditional-sounding folk music written from a place of radical politics and female solidarity, "It's Cool" takes on the male-endorsed flippancy of dating in the era of Tinder. B-side "You Only Want Me When You Need Me" is a slowed-down kick at male fragility, the emotional empowerment of rejecting a post-midnight "wyd" text in a Townes Van Zandt-esque musical package.
"It's Cool" b/w "You Only Want Me When You Need Me" will be released digitally on Nov 8 and on 7" vinyl early next year (the first 7" release in Folkways history).
