NASHVILLE, TN. (KOCH Records) - The legendary Patti Page is celebrating her fifty-eighth year as a recording artist with a new CD collection titled, "For Sentimental Reasons." Scheduled for release Tuesday, May 10 on DRG Records, this one-of-a-kind project features 20 of Patti's timeless live television performances from the 1950s painstakingly restored and remastered from the original master tapes. This very special collection includes Patti's signature classic, "Tennessee Waltz," together with novelties like "(How Much Is) That Doggie in the Window" and a wonderful selection of standards such as "Route 66," "It Had To Be You," "For Sentimental Reasons" and many more.
Patti Page first broke onto the music scene in 1948 with her first Top Twenty hit, "Confess" and became a pioneer in the field of overdubbing and multiple voice techniques by recording her own three part harmonies - a ground breaking, innovative endeavor. Throughout her remarkable recording career, Patti has continued to set records. With 3 Gold albums, 15 certified Gold singles and a staggering 111 hits on the Billboard (pop, country and R&B) charts, Patti is a true icon whose accomplishments remain unparalleled. Her recording of "Tennessee Waltz" alone sold over ten million copies, the biggest selling single ever by a female artist. The song spent 13 weeks on the top of the charts.
As the "Golden Age of Television" dawned in the 50s, Patti became the only musical performer in history to have her own series on all three major networks. NBC aired "The Scott Music Hall" twice weekly, CBS presented Patti in a fifteen-minute show, followed by a lavish one-hour weekly show called "The Big Record" and ABC followed with "The Patti Page Show."
The original soundtracks from some of these programs have now become "For Sentimental Reasons."
These performances will be a revelation for fans of American popular music. Looking back from today, it's hard to comprehend the magnitude of Miss Page's achievements as an artist. Given the immense popularity of her outstanding studio recordings, it's been too easy to forget just how sensational her live performances were, and are even today. Recorded in one take and broadcast on live TV, these tracks reveal the commanding presence of a charismatic song stylist. And while inspired performances of most of Patti's biggest hits are included here, her creative approach to the standards (often backed by a swinging big band) will finally let today's music fans rediscover the artistry of Patti Page.
Today, Patti continues to perform 30-40 select concerts each year and along with her husband, manages her unique Patti Page Organic Pancake Mix & Maple Syrup business.
"For Sentimental Reasons" will be available in retail stores nationally on Tuesday, May 10. The CD will also be available soon at www.pattipageproducts.com. For complete track listing, see below.
