New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The alt-rock trio, The Man Who, release their latest single "Give Me Something", with Home Music Company, Inc. / Universal Music. Kicking off with an indelible synth riff, the track captures the intoxicating nature of attraction, with lead vocalist David Walsh's rapid-fire delivery on the taut verses giving way to an ebullient chorus. The band wrote the song with HEAVY (The Dirty Heads, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness), who produced alongside Tawgs Salter (USS, Lights). "Give Me Something" was mixed by Mark "Spike" Stent (Paul McCartney, Coldplay, Chvrches).
David Walsh recalls, "This was our first collaboration with HEAVY, and writing 'Give Me Something' at their L.A. studio, surrounded by orange trees and sunshine, provided not only some much-needed vitamin C and D - but also the perfectly chilled atmosphere that really helped to capture the whole carefree California vibe of the song."
The Toronto-based band will play its first U.S. shows this fall, opening on the first leg of BANNERS' North American tour. The run will kick off on September 18 at Boston's Brighton Music Hall and will include shows at Rough Trade in Brooklyn (September 23) and Subterranean in Chicago (September 29). Tickets are on sale now at https://themanwhoband.com. See below for itinerary.
"Give Me Something" is the follow up to The Man Who's first major label single, "Natural Villain." Fans can get a preview of the band's live energy with their recently posted performance of "Natural Villain" at The Orange Lounge in Toronto.
Elicit Magazine praised the "smart, cutting lyricism and all the growl of 'Natural Villain.'" Music Connection said, "Bristling with a sense of foreboding, the track showcases the hypnotic contrast at the heart of their music - an infinite tension between bright and dark, raw vulnerability and quiet mystique."
Comprising David Walsh (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards), Chad Walsh (bass/electric guitar, keyboards, background vocals) and Frank Goerz (drums), The Man Who take their name from a Ralph Waldo Emerson quote, "The world makes way for the man who knows where he's going." In 2015, a tour took Toronto-based Chad Walsh to Newfoundland, where re-connected with his cousin, David Walsh, who was also a musician. The two began a long-distance collaboration that solidified when David came to Toronto for an extended writing session. With drummer Frank Goerz - a Toronto native who had been working in Nashville studios - brought into the fold, The Man Who soon made its breakthrough with "Bet On You," which Clash premiered, praising the band's "crisp songwriting with a blackened edge."
"Natural Villain" and "Give Me Something" are from The Man Who's forthcoming EP.
