Jonny Greenwood To Lead BBC Prom In September 2019
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The BBC Proms 2019 season has been announced, and among the performs this year is composer/guitarist Jonny Greenwood, who will lead his own late-night concert, Prom 70, at Royal Albert Hall on Tuesday, September 10. Greenwood has curated a program of pieces by Biber and Krzysztof Penderecki, Steve Reich's 2015 piece Pulse, and Greenwood's own works, including the world premiere of his new piece, Horror vacui, for solo violin and sixty-eight strings. Greenwood will perform, as will the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, led by Hugh Brunt, BBC Proms Youth Ensemble, violinist Daniel Pioro, and pianist Katherine Tinker. The concert will be broadcast on BBC Four the following weekend, on Friday, September 13. General booking begins on May 11. For additional details and to see the full Proms season schedule, visit bbc.co.uk.

Jonny Greenwood's Academy Award-nominated score to Paul Thomas Anderson's film Phantom Thread was released on Nonesuch Records last year. It was their fourth collaboration, following soundtracks for There Will Be Blood, The Master, and Inherent Vice. Nonesuch also released his score for Norwegian Wood; his album with Penderecki; his performance of Steve Reich's Electric Counterpoint; and Junun, his collaboration with composer/musician Shye Ben Tzur and the Rajasthan Express.

Nonesuch Records released the world-premiere recording of Steve Reich's Pulse, performed by the International Contemporary Ensemble, on an album paired with his Quartet, last year. The Los Angeles Times noted the "lyricism, gorgeous instrumental textures and affecting harmonies" of the piece.

The BBC Proms 2019 season also includes performances of John Adams's Short Ride in a Fast Machine on July 21, excerpts from Alex North's score to A Streetcar Named Desire on August 9, and the UK premiere of Louis Andriessen's The Only One on September 8.
