New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Leading global distributor Kew Media Distribution (KMD), part of KEW MEDIA GROUP INC. ("KEW MEDIA," "KEW" or the " Company") (TSX:KEW and KEW.WT) today announced that HBO and Channel 4's presentation of the provocative Leaving Neverland debuted to incredible ratings following its UK and US premieres. The consolidated average for the first episode of Dan Reed's two-part Michael Jackson exposé on Channel 4 was 4.7 million viewers, making it the channel's highest rating documentary since 2017. Audiences for Leaving Neverland were over three times the slot average and over four times the slot average for the 16-34 age range. The documentary also contributed to Channel 4's streaming platform All 4's single best performing program. KMD is managing distribution for the rest of the world outside HBO and Channel 4.
Following its premiere on HBO, Leaving Neverland became the channel's third most watched documentary premiere of the last decade. The first episode averaged 1.29 million viewers and the second episode captured 927,000, for an average of 1.11 million viewers across both parts. After more than one week of viewing, across HBO platforms, the show has grown to be watched by 5 million viewers and 3.5 million viewers respectively.
The largest audience for an HBO documentary in the last decade was for another KMD-distributed title, Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief from KEW's Jigsaw Productions, directed by Oscar-winner Alex Gibney, which garnered 1.7 million viewers.
