NEW YORK (www.kimmyandklasse.com) - The amazing Maryland trio KIMMY & KLASS? have recently released a soulful CD "The Love of Music" which finely showcases their great voices with a blend of originals and new sounds to cover songs by Aretha Franklin, Donny Hathaway,
Chaka Khan and The Three Degrees. The CD has garnered widespread radio airplay and impressive reviews in music circles. Each song on "The Love of Music" carries its own powerful story, from seeking a relationship, finding a relationship to marriage and then being single again.
KIMMY- Pronounced: Kim-my (Adopted from the proper name Kimberly) comes from the name of a city in South Africa, which was originally named for Lord Kimberly, whose surname means "land belonging to cyneburga" in Old English. Cyneburga means "Royal Fortress". Cyne "royal" and burg "fortress. Saint Cyneburga, a daughter of a king of Mercia in the 7th century.
KLASS?- Pronounced Class- Se' (Adopted from the word Class) from the American Heritage Dictionary- which means a group containing members having at least one common attribute in common, "Jazzy Soul With An R&B Flavor".
This musical collective, Kimmy and Klass?, hosts the lovely voices of Kimmy Kearse, Johnita Wilson-Dillard and Levondra Attidore. Joining together officially in 1994, lead singer Kimmy began singing first with Johnita in 1993, and then with LeVondra while carpooling to work in 1994. Over the years, the women discovered they had a distinguishable sound and a growing musical following ever so eager to enjoy any one of their many performances. Unlike most, Kimmy & Klass? have been afforded the opportunity through the years to hone their skills via live shows and recordings; understanding each other's range to a science
while methodically displaying a sound unbeknownst to most. Like Earth, Wind & Fire, these women blend to take you on a spiritual high, while entertaining your senses.
Recognized as the "passionate pusher", Kimmy, raised in a military family, brings her drive and provides the necessary glue needed for a group's longevity. Growing up with the sounds of Aretha Franklin,
Natalie Cole, Anita Baker, Teena Marie,
Stephanie Mills, Sister Sledge, The Jones Girls; Kimmy used her inspiration to push forward. As a
Music major at Webster University in St. Louis, MO. Kimmy seized the opportunity to hone her songwriting/arranging skills for which she's contributed to several of the selections on the CD.
Considered the diplomatic peacemaker of the trio, Johnita's energy provides the perfect balance. A true vocalist/performer since elementary school, Johnita, who wrote the single, "
Crazy", found musical inspirationin Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle, The Emotions, The Jackson Five,
Diana Ross and the Supremes, En Vogue, and Luther Vandross.
Possessing an "easy-going" laid back spirit, LeVondra's vibe evokes the essential mellow characteristic needed in every group. Singing since she was a teenager in church and school choirs, LeVondra began exploring all realms of musical demonstration early on. LeVondra's musical influences include Patti LaBelle, Aretha Franklin, Prince,
Natalie Cole, Phyllis Hyman,
En Vogue and Whitney Houston.
