New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Born in Kiev, Delena relocated to a Switzerland school at just 12 years old and went on to London, to study at the London
Institute Of Contemporary
Music Performance.
Music was always in her veins, through her relation to Ukrainian screenwriter, film producer, and director
Alexander Dovzhenko. Moving to London was a new lease of life for Delena, who, inspired by the likes of Eta James, Ella Fitzgerald, and
Queen to name a few, began to develop her distinctive, sassy style of pop.
Since then, it's been a meteoric rise for the young songwriter. Her previous releases "Nothing Can Stop Us Now" and "
Animal" have been regularly supported by Popjustice, as well as praised by the likes of Wonderland,
Clash Magazine, and Spindle. She's also streaming well on Spotify with regular playlist support building new fans across the globe.
Now the young songwriter is looking forward to a busy 2019, with her first album on the way later this year. Firstly, fans can expect a new EP in February that showcases the versatility and songwriting guile of Delena. The first single from the project is the rousing, captivating piano-led single "Holy Ground". It's a departure from her previous, pop-leaning releases. The track crescendos to an anthemic, stirring chorus complimenting Delena's vocal exquisitely. Lyrically, it's a motivational masterclass that's sure to inspire her new fans across the globe.
Holy ground is my idea that there's a place in everyone's heart which no one can reach except you! Where we can escape to when things become too much. It's a beautiful place where there's no pain because it's completely untouchable and safe! So the song is a kind of prayer in a way and I wanted to give it a bit of church like feel. We have a great tradition of religious singing in Ukraine. It's a very special sound and although this doesn't sound like that kind of singing at all it was my inspiration.
"A superb talent coming in to bloom" - Clash
"Precisely the pop song we all need, at this precise moment in human existence' - Popjustice
"A powerful anthem of self-confidence. Elevated by Delena's flawless vocal delivery" -
