NEW YORK (Virgin Records/ V Festival) - On the weekend of 20th and 21st August 2005, the new kings of British rock,
Franz Ferdinand will grace the main stages of V Festival. Organisers today confirm that the foursome will co-headline with
Scissor Sisters at this summer's 10th annual V Festival - sponsored by Virgin
Mobile - playing Weston Park, Staffordshire (Saturday) and Hylands Park, Chelmsford (Sunday).
Fresh from bringing home the bacon at last week's BRIT Awards ceremony, where they were crowned Best British Group and Best British Rock Act, Franz Ferdinand, will strut their beautiful stuff on V's main stage, co-headlining with New York's finest: Scissor Sisters. The NME cover stars, Alexander Kapranos, (lead vocals/guitars) Bob Hardy (bass), Nick McCarthy (guitars/vocals) and Paul Thomson (drums), are bound to change a few lives when performing at the climax of the 10th anniversary event.
Alexander Kapranos commented:
'We heard about what a great festival V was to play last year and wished we could've been there. We're really excited to be playing the main stage and co-headlining with the Scissor Sisters - we'll be sure to give fans a performance to remember.'
Festival Director Bob Angus commented:
'With Scissor Sisters, and now Franz Ferdinand confirmed to perform, we're confident that this years V Festival will live up to it's reputation for fantastic live music. There's more news to come and we look forward to unveiling a unparalleled main stage joint headline act*, who, with these two acts, will make for unbeatable electric atmosphere!'
*Playing Saturday at Hylands Park and Sunday at Weston Park
A brief history of 10 years of V...
The very first V festival was held in 1996 and was the only event of its kind to be staged at two sites over the same weekend where the artists swap venues overnight. Previous headliners have included The Strokes, Muse, Dido and Pixies (last year), Coldplay and Red Hot Chilli Peppers (2003), Manic Street Preachers and Suede (1999), Prodigy and Blur (1997) and featured acts such as Travis, The Verve, James Brown, All Saints, Iggy Pop, Macy Gray, Moby, Faithless and Kylie... The festival boasts the cream of the music crop every year and organisers are pulling out all the stops to celebrate a decade of V!
Text the fest, free kebabs and angels...
