Maxwell Announces "Black Summer Night For Social Justice"
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Brooklyn born and bred soul star Maxwell has set a date for his inaugural "Black Summer Night For Social Justice" this summer, a special night aimed at spurring action on a range of local and national civil rights issues.

The concert will be held Saturday, August 11th at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, NY, and feature performances by Maxwell, Fantasia, DVSN and Jazmine Sullivan, with additional guest performances and organizations to be announced.

Tickets go on sale this Saturday, April 21 at 10AM ET here: https://axs.com/events/353240/maxwell-tickets

Maxwell says of his goals for the event: "There has never been a better or more important time to stand up and speak for those whose voices can't be heard. I am inspired by the lives of Harry Belafonte, Paul Robeson and Nelson Mandela and aim to bring attention to issues such as women's rights, the disproportionate incarceration of African American men in America, the deplorable situation in Puerto Rico and many others. I will have more details to share in the coming weeks about organizations and other like-minded performers who will come together with me for this special evening."

A portion of the proceeds from "Black Summer Night For Social Justice" will go to Me Too (https://metoomvmt.org/), Southern Poverty Law Center (https://www.splcenter.org) and additional organizations to be announced.

Maxwell's extensive involvement with activism and philanthropy are a reflection of the singer's larger legacy and artistic identity, which have always been rooted in his faith in empathy, tenderness and love.

Long before he would go on to grace stages around the world, Maxwell grew up as an outsider. This has inspired in him a fierce dedication to social, racial and economic justice -- to empower those who have been overlooked and left behind.

He is a board-member of Unitas, the international humanitarian organization that raises money and awareness to combat human trafficking, and is closely aligned with the Haiti-based non-profit, Artists for Peace and Justice, which supports communities in the country. Last year he was named Global Gift Philanthropist and Humanitarian Award for the Global Gift Foundation, a non-profit charity whose goal is to create positive changes in development, wellness, health care and social inclusion of the most vulnerable. His charitable interests extend to numerous other charities including Harry Belafonte's Sankofa, Somos Una Voz, MoCada (Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts) and more.
