LOS ANGELES (Sunset) - Although Southern California is known as one of the nation's largest melting pots, you'll rarely find a popular theatre or club where Asians are performing. These days, most talented Asians express their love for the arts through community events and local festivals. Once in a great while, (maybe every decade or so) a play like Miss Saigon may come along the way to allow talented performers a chance to present their skills for a mainstream audience.

But for three young Asian-American artists, waiting for an opportunity every ten years was just not good enough. Kat Jimenez, Mari, and Robert Tom have decided to take matters into their own hands. The three independent music artists will be collaborating on a concert entitled "Sunset in the East" this February 24th at the world famous Roxy Theatre on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles.

Not only are these young talents dedicated to paving the way for Asian-American musicians, they're also taking new approaches to pop, jazz and reggae music. Robert Tom revitalizes jazz standards with his chilling vocal chords and his charismatic presence. Mari gracefully plays the piano (and sometimes guitar) as she sings her beautiful lyrics with her incredibly raw and pure sound. Kat Jimenez combines mellow Hawaiian grooves and upbeat reggae beats with her undeniably rich and soulful voice.

February 24th at the Roxy will definitely be a night to remember. The show will start off with Mari's phenomenal sound, followed by Robert Tom's entertaining jazzy tunes, then ends with Kat Jimenez' rhythmic vibe to get you in the mood for dancing. This show is only the first of many, so watch out for these rising stars.

General admission tickets to Sunset in the East at the Roxy are $11 at the door. Those wishing for more information on how to obtain pre-sale discounted tickets or a media invitation for this event should contact Jim Winston at e-mai (protected from spam bots). The artists mentioned above are also available for media interviews.
