NEW YORK (KOCH Records) - KOCH Records is thrilled to announce the release of "My American Songbook (Vol. 1)," the new album by saxophonist/flutist Nelson Rangell on March 8th. Its stylized arrangements of contemporary American classics are like no other being recorded currently in the smooth jazz/contemporary jazz genre, and will set him apart.

Since he made his way on the jazz scene in 1987, Nelson Rangell - a popular contemporary jazz artist - has released 13 albums to wide acclaim. The times of London has called him "one of fusion's most accomplished exponents." As a student, Rangell twice received Downbeat Magazine's National Student Recording Awards for Best Jazz Soloist and Best Pop Rock soloist.

Jazziz wrote, "Rangell peppers with effortless complexity seeming at times almost superhuman... rich in inspiration, long on chops and powerfully unique in voice."

Tracks include songs as diverse as Leonard Bernstein's "America" from "West Side Story," the Appalachian bluegrass hoedown "Freda," Stevie Wonder's Latin "Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing," a whistled version of Hampton Hawes' classic "Sonora" to Earth, Wind & Fire's rhythm and blues classic "That's The Way Of The World."
"My American Songbook (Vol. 1)" will break new musical ground for Rangell as he continues his path of artistic growth and evolvement.
