New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Terry Ohms started as a side project to Vulture Whale, who were early leaders in the burgeoning Birmingham,
Alabama underground scene. Frontman Wes McDonald began recording as his alter-ego Terry Ohms on the side, eventually releasing a wave of creative, diverse records. Ohms' wonderfully crafted new EP, A Lot More Than Enough, is due October 13th, 2017.
The first single, "
Ghost" oozes an otherworldy sensation via a combination of electric and acoustic piano, synths, fuzzy guitars and a sweet melody. The new video for the song shows Ohms dancing freely with a bike helmet on (safety first!) while the world around him spins wildly. As the song progresses, it seems Ohms is battling the world around him, all while losing himself in the track. Oh yeah, and the whole video is in negative coloration, adding a super trippy vibe. McDonald recorded this album himself and played all the instruments at Terry's House studio in Birmingham, AL.
"Let's Go Meet The Neighbors" is the second single, described by Ohms as 'EDM Short', shows off a new side to his identity. Processed vocals and looped clips bloop and bleep listeners through a super catchy psychedelic journey
A Birmingham, AL native, Wes McDonald remains a Birmingham resident and operates out of the once sleepy town that now has a plethora of artists and musicians. In the late nineties, having zero record releases under his belt, McDonald moved from Birmingham to Athens, Ga, where he did a 6 year residency. He released his first solo album, Alarm Clock Recordings, in 2000, and in the process, formed The Ohms with fellow former Tuscaloosa musicians,
Jeff Buckley and Mark Evces; and South Carolina's Andrew "the Fidldlin' Heatwave" Heaton. The Ohms became a local favorite in Athens, and toured all over the southeast. The Ohms released 2 records, Electrical Resistance and If You don't Think I Love You ...
Amidst the success of The Ohms, McDonald continued his solo work, recording two more albums, 2001's Chandelier, and Cutting Up Rocks in 2002. The release of Cuttin' Up Rocks coincided with McDonald's return to Birmingham, the end of The Ohms, and a reunion with his former Birmingham mates from way back, Matthew Jackson, Drew Davis and Jake Waitzman. This lineup made up the Wes McDonald Plan, and McDonald's venture back into the Birmingham music scene had begun.
In 2007 McDonald teamed up with Les Nuby, Jake Waitzman and Keelan Parish to form Vulture Whale. The band has released five albums to date and continue doing that four piece rock thang like a hair fire in a shit storm. Throughout, borrowing from The Ohms, he dubbed his side project Terry Ohms and recorded up a storm.
