Bill Gordon Music Releases Its Book, It's Music, Not Theory, Damn It! And Workshop Series To Demystify Music Fundamentals And The Music Business
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Music students struggle with understanding music because its presented in a convoluted way. I wrote this book and present these workshops to show that what goes on in most music is comprehensible.

Acclaimed pianist, composer and educator Bill Gordon's book, It's Music, Not Theory, Damn It! has been the bedrock for hundreds of students learning music, and is now available to everyone. The approach is clear, accurate, practical and fun. Never dumbed down. From fundamentals of pitch and rhythm, through scales and melody, to chords, chord progression and song analysis, presenting the architecture and structure of music in a pragmatic, humorous way that can be put to immediate use by beginners and pros

Complementing It's Music, Not Theory, Damn It! are his college-level, lively, entertaining and fast-paced workshops, tailored to suit whatever the level of the class, be it novice or professional.

Wrestle Any Song to the Ground blasts through music fundamentals, then dissects songs to show precisely what's happening and what to really call it. Students' songs are then similarly deconstructed.

Piano Playing for the Singer/Songwriter is a hands-on workshop to help piano-playing songwriters accompany themselves better in ease of execution, effective emotional delivery and injury-free playing.

It's Music, Not Theory, Damn It! is a hands-on classroom version of the book covering pitch, rhythm, scales, melody, chords, chord progression, song analysis and production style, showing lovers of music there's nothing theoretical about this magical art.

"Music students struggle with understanding music because its presented in a convoluted way. I wrote this book and present these workshops to show that what goes on in most music is comprehensible. My no-nonsense approach (thank you Berklee!) clears a path to confidently understand what we're hearing in a song. It provides a solid foundation for anyone's musical house. Students often tell me the book and workshops remove long-standing confusion."

Basics of the Music Bidniz is a crash course in music business fundamentals looking at professional behavior, copyrights, publishing, contracts, art-meets- commerce, marketing, ethics, and an array of related issues for anyone thinking about a career in music…or simply curious. This is very much an overview class, designed to introduce essential music industry concepts.

"I've played professionally since I was fourteen. A conservatory and Berklee education, plus innumerable gigs, sessions, deals, tours and compositions gave me the experience to write and teach the music business course at SAE Institute Miami."

Books can be purchased at https://www.billgordonmusic.com/books and include a three-hour on-line ear training course. Schedule workshops for 2017 by contacting: [email protected].

Pianist, composer, and teacher Bill Gordon started playing professionally at age fourteen as drummer and leader of his rhythm and blues band in Baltimore. He later studied piano and composition at the Wiesbaden Conservatory in Germany, graduated Berklee College of Music, and has composed, performed and produced mainstream jazz, evocative solo piano ballads, quirky pop songs, a quasi-avant-garde funk fable and music for film and TV.

Bill has recorded extensively and appeared as soloist, accompanist, music director, sideman and band leader throughout the United States and Europe. He currently writes and performs with jazz and indie-pop singer/songwriters, does annual European tours, and continues composing TV and film tracks (Castle, Nashville, Entourage, etc.).

He has enjoyed decades of teaching, privately and at colleges in Boston, New York City, Raleigh, Los Angeles, Miami, Vienna and now back in Baltimore. Bill taught at SAE Institute media school in Miami for nine years and wrote their music and music business courses. He presents song, performance, and music business seminars and workshops at a wide variety of schools in the U.S. and Europe, and has published the DIY textbook It's Music, Not Theory, Damn It! along with its companion online ear training course, and online music course Music, No Theory.
