NEW YORK (AP) - Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton, Billy Joel, Marc Anthony, and Five for Fighting are the latest additions to Paul McCartney's star-studded benefit for victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist strikes, the Concert for New York.
The aforementioned join already confirmed artists the Who, Bon Jovi, James Taylor, John Mellencamp, Macy Gray, Goo Goo Dolls, Melissa Etheridge, and India.Arie. Newly added entertainers, who will join Jim Carrey, Jerry Seinfeld, Gwyneth Paltrow, and John Cusack, include Meg Ryan, Susan Sarandon, David Spade, Julia Stiles, and Denis Leary.
Tickets for the event will go on sale at 9 a.m. ET on Monday (Oct. 8) through Ticketmaster outlets (not, obviously, Oct. 1 as previously announced). A memorabilia auction and exclusive merchandise is also being planned for the show. All proceeds will go to the Robin Hood Relief Fund. VH1 will air the Concert for New York live from Madison Square Garden in New York on Oct. 20 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
In other benefit concert news, CMT and Clear Channel Entertainment have put together the Country Freedom Concert, set for Oct. 21 at the Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville. On board to perform, so far, are George Strait, Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn, and Martina McBride. More artists are expected to be announced shortly.
The event will be telecast on CMT live from 8-10 p.m. ET, and broadcast on Westwood One radios stations worldwide. All proceeds from Country Freedom Concert will go to the Salvation Army's disaster relief efforts.
Dr. Dre, meanwhile, has reportedly penned a song about Osama Bin Laden titled "Kill Bin Laden," according to San Francisco hip-hop station KMEL.
