New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Jackson Hunter, 25, is a Hip-Hop artist currently residing in Los Angeles, CA. Hunter grew up in San Diego, CA, attending college in the Bay Area where he received a Bachelor's degree in Music. He then relocated to Los Angeles where he is pursuing his music career. The genesis of his songwriting trajectory started by smoking marijuana with his friends and freestyling over popular instrumentals for hours on end.
Soon after, he thought it would be fun to try and make songs. This proved to be more difficult than he imagined, though Hunter says he enjoyed the challenge and didn't let it discourage him. His parents' divorce when he was 7, his battle against addiction, and his past relationships are just a few of the experiences that influence his writing. Hunter has released a string of mixtapes and albums over the last six years that can all be heard on Datpiff. In that time, he has opened for a bevy of well-known artists and has performed at numerous historical venues. Much of his material is "dark" or "macabre" in subject matter, but he almost always ends the piece with a hopeful and uplifting message. Hunter's new single, "The Perfectionist", off the latest full-length "Gallows and Safehouse", features his favorite rapper of all time, King Chip.
