New York, NY (Top40 Charts) It wasn't that long ago that Cathy Lemons called and introduced me to fellow blues musician Phil Berkowitz. Cathy said, "John, Phil and I have written some songs that we are dying to share with the world. We've decided to go for it."
So they recorded and toured. Then in no time at all I received another phone call, "John, Phil and I wrote some songs while we were touring and we are dying to share them with the world so we have decided to go for it." Which was surprising because "The Lucky Losers" had just gotten off the road recently. But they were adamant. First they were going into Kid Andersen's famous recording studio, Greaseland, and then back on the road again. I made a comical remark that the Mrs. and I would kill each other going across the states just once let alone twice. To which Cathy replied, "Well, we actually travel really well together and the point is to be together on this adventure - plus it makes for some great songs!"
Phil laughed and added, "Ya we might have a spat or two but we really do make a great team!" So they did it and that's the story. It still works - record, tour, repeat. They also made stops at records stores just like the greats of yesteryear used to do. They built a plan and they were sticking to it. So it came as no big surprise to learn that they are hitting the ball out of the park. Pop used to say, "Got a hunch, bet a bunch" and these two bet the farm. Gotta love that - they felt it and went for it. There's just something about knowing within that you need to get your music out there.
Sometimes it becomes so overwhelming that an artist just has to do it. The blues as they say is a feeling and if the feeling is that you just need to get out there or you will just bust then you got to do it. These two seasoned vets are having a ball doing what's inside them, that's cool, really cool.
