SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (Kaydean Media International/ www.menteurbana.com) - Soon to be a household name, Mente Urbana has been the industry insider's buzz for quite sometime. They have achieved such notoriety by successfully combining the street rhythms of east Coast R&B and Hip-Hop with the flavor and heart of the Latin culture – which is more complicated than it sounds.
Kaydean's infectious beats and unmistakable grooves has fueled Mente Urbana's popularity and lead singer Janid's beauty, charm and unique, powerful voice has held that huge fan base captive.
In 2004, Mente Urbana became the sound behind Sony's Aiwa sound systems with commercials featuring songs from their originally planned debut CD, 'Tormenta.' Kaydean, lead singer Janid and then MC Laser Rick touched everyone alike regardless of age, nationality or social class with the fresh and unique sound of their contagious music. After the completion of 'Tormenta', the release was delayed as Mente Urbana underwent many changes and growing pains, including the replacement of Laser Rick, who was eventually substituted by another Puerto Rican MC, Pete.
Mente Urbana immediately headed back to the studio and spent the rest of the year re-recording their debut CD. New, fresh ideas, off the wall topics and the spiritual growth resulting from the painful experiences they had to deal with proved to be a winning combination. Kaydean managed to produce a true masterpiece, a one of a kind production that brilliantly surpasses the already amazing material in 'Tormenta': Mente Urbana, 'One', while Janid manages to build a personal relationship with the listener with deeper more intimate lyrics delivered by a powerful and at times emotional performance.
Individually, each member is a critical part in Mente Urbana's sound. Kaydean provides The Music; the rhythm and flavor of the Hip-Hop and R&B from the East Coast of the United States. Janid is The Voice; the heart and soul of Mente Urbana's persona. Her commercial-friendly beauty mixed with her powerful and soulful voice provides Mente Urbana's strong sex appeal. Her natural ability to weave 7 voice harmonies into smooth, sultry vocal arrangements commands the respect of her critics, peers and fans. Finally, Pete, writes words that communicate outstanding imagery and heartfelt emotion and communicates them with an aggressiveness and style that only comes from knowing the streets first hand.
Mente Urbana's new debut CD, 'One' is expected to hit the stores later this year. Tracks from 'One' will also be featured in the upcoming Puerto Rican mini-series 'El
Ultimo Caso del Detective Prado.' Plans for a national tour are in the works that will cover New York, Miami, Chicago, Texas, Los Angeles, Colorado and of course, Puerto Rico. For more information, visit
