Midland Center For The Arts Presents Edgar Meyer Midland Symphony Orchestra's "Opening Night: All About That Bass" October 1, 2016
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Grammy Award-winning bassist and composer Edgar Meyer, known for his wide range of musical styles including bluegrass, classical and jazz, joins director Bohuslav Rattay and the Midland Symphony Orchestra to open its 81st concert season. As the most remarkable virtuoso in the history of the instrument, Meyer has collaborated with superstars like Joshua Bell, Yo-Yo Ma, Chris Thile and James Taylor. He takes the stage to perform two works: his own Double Bass Concerto No. 1, which proves the bass can star as a solo instrument; and Italian composer Giovanni Bottesini's Concerto No. 2 for Double Bass, which extended the range of the instrument far beyond what was imagined to be possible.

"Edgar Meyer has formed a role in the music world unlike any other," said Kimberly Dimond, MSO Managing Director. "This is his second time performing with the MSO, and we couldn't be more thrilled that he has returned. Mr. Meyer's unparalleled technique and musicianship in combination with his gift for composition have brought him to the fore. In addition to his work as solo classical bassist, he has carved out a remarkable and unique niche in the musical world as a composer. Collaborations are a central part of his work, and he's a member of numerous groups whose members include Chris Thile, Bela Fleck, Yo-Yo Ma, Zakir Hussain, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Mark O'Connor, Emanuel Ax, Joshua Bell, Mike Marshall, and Amy Dorfman."
