The band expain the story behind the song...
"The Gambler" represents our quiter side; While suffering with a badly broken arm I was looking for ways to play the guitar that barely used my picking hand and this song emerged from that. The track incorporates a string quintet who played the parts live in the studio and really add a shine to the song. It was such an honour to play with such a talented bunch of classically trained musicians on this one, to me this song is still a proper alt trio arrangement with the strings representing the imagination of the band overflowing into the record.

Recording with Luke at Toe Rag studios was an absolute privilage, working on 8 track tape has some interesting challenges and it's really just about capturing a moment. The studio won a grammy in 2004 when The White Stripes made "Elephant" there. It's a pretty special place for a brand new band to play with their first EP.
