WHITE PLAINS, NY (Heineken Music Initiative/ www.ascapfoundation.org) - The Heineken Music Initiative and The ASCAP Foundation have teamed up for a third year to assist emerging R&B songwriters through a unique music grant program. The Heineken Music Initiative/ASCAP Foundation R&B Grant program will recognize the talents of emerging R&B songwriters in seven major cities across the country, and provide them with encouragement to further develop their careers in music. As part of this effort, a songwriter (or songwriters) from each market will be selected to receive a $2,500 grant.

This year's program will focus on the following key music markets:
* Atlanta
* Chicago
* Los Angeles
* New York
* Miami
* Philadelphia
* Washington D.C./Baltimore

To apply for The Heineken Music Initiative/ASCAP Foundation R&B Grant, entrants must be members of ASCAP and 21 years of age or older. All applications must be postmarked by January 7, 2005.

The Heineken Music Initiative/ASCAP Foundation Grant program is designed to assist emerging R&B songwriters, in line with The ASCAP Foundation's longstanding commitment to developing new musical talent and The Heineken Music Initiative's efforts to support performing arts.

Since 1975, The ASCAP Foundation has been dedicated to supporting American music creators and encouraging the development of American music through educational and talent development programs.
Included in these are songwriting workshops, grants, scholarships, music education programs, and public service projects for senior composers and lyricists.
