It's official! Scottish act Franz Ferdinand are one of the country's biggest breakthrough bands in recent memory, rising to national acclaim and fame in the space of one year. Since the stateside release of their self-titled debut album, Franz Ferdinand (Domino/Epic) in early 2004, the total worldwide sales has reached 2.5 million copies, including over 675,000 records sold in the US alone.
Now, with three Grammy nominations under their belts, it's safe to say Franz Ferdinand is 2004's most electrifying new act.

According to lead singer Alex Kapranos, "We're so very flattered and thrilled by the news. It looks like we're up against some remarkable competition, like Elvis Costello and U2 - it is astonishing company to be in."

Commenting on the music industry's current climate, he continues, "With contemporaries like Modest Mouse and Wilco on this list, it looks as though music has never been in a healthier state. It's an exciting place to be."

Franz Ferdinand is nothing short of a phenomenon!
- Performances on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and "The Late Show with David Letterman"
- The cover of Spin magazine
