Jazz At Fair Park Presents A Live Concert And Interview With The John A Lewis Trio On WRR 101.1 FM
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Valarteri Records) On Sunday evening, December 27th, Jazz at Fair Park will present a live performance and interview featuring the John A Lewis trio. Jazz at Fair Park is a new weekly program produced by WRR-FM (101.1). The Program airs Sunday evenings from 7:00 until 8:00 pm. The show is hosted by DFW-area arts and cultural expert and jazz aficionado Vicki Meek, and features interviews and music.

The John A Lewis trio consists of pianist/composer John A Lewis, bassist Lincoln Apeland and drummer Merik Gillett. The trio will perform original music from their two critically acclaimed recordings "Progenation," named "hypnotically pleasant" by Jazz Inside Magazine, and "One Trip Out," described by Bebop Spoken Here as "meaningful originality," as well as two new compositions.

"One Trip Out" reached number eight on the CMJ jazz chart. The music is composed by John A Lewis. The style ranges from straight ahead to Latin-tinged to odd meter tunes. There is a presence of chromaticism and bitonality. And while the forms are rooted in the traditional jazz song format, the harmonic and melodic approaches are quite original. The fresh and sometimes unconventional melodies set the context for a variety of improvisational approaches.

"The trio is committed to developing a distinctive style," says James Stapleton, The Sounds of Jazz, KNON radio 89.3 FM.

The trio has been performing together for over five years. They have performed at Jazz clubs, restaurants and in concert at such venues as the Sammons Center for the Arts, Sandaga 813 and the Jazz in the Atrium series at the Dallas Museum of the Arts and the South Dallas Cultural center.

Jazz at Fair Park is the first full-length jazz program produced by WRR and one of the few available anywhere in the nation.
