New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The Shenandoah Valley is known for many things including its involvement in the Civil War but when one is thinking of hi-quality museum exhibitions, one looks to the big cities not to the Shenandoah Valley. Therefore, what a surprise it is to visit the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley also known as MSV and find an exhibition from Loudoun, England celebrating the costume design industry "CUT! - Costume and the Cinema!"
"Perhaps my favorite traveling exhibition we have brought to the museum," said Nancy Huth, Deputy
Director of Arts and Education at the museum. CUT features forty-three period costumes worn by famous film stars including Johnny Depp, Date Winslet, Robert Downey Jr, Keria Knightly, and Heath Ledger. The art of making costumes for period films plays the starring role in CUT! The exhibit depicts five centuries of style and will be on view through February 28, 2016.
Films represented in the exhibition depict history, drama, comedy, fantasy, and adventure from the 1500s to the 1900s. In all, more than 30 actors and 24 films are represented including Pirate of the Caribbean, Sense and Sensibility, The New World, Gosford Park, Sherlock Holmes, and The Phantom of the Opera.
"CUT fits beautifully in our strategy. Right now we are also showcasing Face to Face, an exhibition on portraits from the Julian Wood Glass Jr. Collection." said Huth. This exhibition includes works by renowned artists, such as Rembrandt Peale,
George Romney, Gilbert Stuart, Sir Henry Raeburn, John Singleton Copley, Sir
Thomas Lawrence, Sir Joshua Reynolds, Pompeo Batoni, and
Thomas Gainsborough. Portraits included feature men, women, families, and children from the 1600s through the 1800s. Most of the paintings are British, with some works by American and Dutch painters also to be included.
"Our emphasis on arts and education centers around MSV's educational programs, exhibitions, and collections. MSV's strategy is to number one to be an attraction. The museum offers the most comprehensive museum experience next to Washington DC," said Huth. From the concerts and performances, the galleries housing the collections and exhibitions to the beautiful Glen Burnie Gardens and the Glen Burnie House that was built by Robert Wood, son of
James Wood, the founder of Winchester, visitors come all seasons to enjoy life at the museum. From April to October over 60 percent of MSV's visitors come from out of the area.
"From bringing my grandchildren to my sister to my ninety year old aunt, the museum is enjoyed by all generations. It is a wonderful place to visit if you are on a multi-generational family travel trip," said Nancy Craun, owner and founder of Go Blue Ridge Travel.
