New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Buffalo, NY based rockers Thundercloud Kid formed in 2013 with a grand mission to launch an ambitious, multi-media art project, large in scope and inherently avant-garde.
Following the release of their debut EP, 'Overcast Hearts,' and later an acoustic version of the EP titled, 'Overcast Hearts: The Bones,' the band unveiled the first in a planned 14-part series of graphic novels, which serves as a companion to the music. Titled, 'The Charmingly Odd and Oddly Charming Tales of the Thundercloud Kid - Chapter One: And Then It Was Dark,' introduced the focal point of the project, a skeleton character named 'McKinley' - The Thundercloud Kid - who serves as a sort of symbol for a world of fantasy and melancholy.
The series illustrates how this powerful and semi-magical tycoon of Lake Effect Steel travels across the Mo(u)rning Lake region in pursuit of "Her," the mysterious light-emitting and life-giving creature that has been stolen from the Hopeless Lighthouse in Overcast City.
The text for these stories resembles something of a hybrid of lyrics and prose, and with the accompanying illustrations, readers are plunged into the depths of this grey and murky world.
At its core, Thundercloud Kid is a mixed art enterprise, a multi-faceted artistic undertaking that reconciles the two formerly distinct disciplines of literature and music into a single, vibrant mosaic of color and life. Here, in this otherworldly universe, melody, lyrics, graphics, prose, illustrations, characters, and narrative are all blended together to advance one cohesive vision for the project as a whole.
The band's latest EP, 'Songs About The Hopeless and Mourning' is out now and will be followed in December by the second chapter of the graphic novel series, ("Chapter Two: In the Wake of Silence" ).
