Music Awards esteemed - 'LBE Green Award' presented by
Sierra Club. Presentation will take place at the 10th Annual LBE
Music Awards – Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at the Vault 350, Long Beach, CA.
It is completely apropos that Mana is the recipient of the LBE Green Award presented by Sierra Club; their longtime champion of the environment through their Fundacion Selva Negra, (Selva Negra Foundation) their appointment as goodwill ambassadors at the United Nations and Mana's generous donations of a dollar from every ticket sold on their last U.S. tour to Selva Negra, raising over $185,633 are among their significant contributions to making a difference in our environment. The LBE Green Award will be dedicated to Mana by a group of young Latino environmentalists from Sierra Club during the 10th Annual LBE Music Awards Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at the Vault 350 (www.vault350.com) in Long Beach.
Mana's dedication to their Selva Negra Foundation is frequently communicated in their press interviews such as quoted recently in Rolling Stone; 'We've tried to follow in the footsteps of the guys who have inspired us, like John Lennon, Peter Gabriel, Sting and Bono,' says Gonzalez. 'Not only musically, but the way they've tackled worldwide issues. And we wanted to do something like that for Mexico and Latin America. We want to educate and inspire people and make them aware of what's going on.'
Further, Mana has just released an impacting DVD Acceso Total—Giro Mundial, that encompasses a year plus of touring, global travel and outreach into the communities that are the heart and soul of their fan base. Included in the DVD is their connection to the United Nations, the Fundacion Selva Negra, tour locations in Europe, South America and the U.S. as well as glimpses into their personal relationships with Bono, Santana and Salma Hayek along with their shared point of views.
LBE supports the members of Mana who have pioneered and lead our Latin Alternative fans for environmental activism in saving the Earth's environment. Mana, a band that is platinum, award-winning have led the cause since 1995 when at the urging of lead singer Fernando 'Fher' Olvera founded the Fundacion Selva Negra. Olvera, drummer Alex Gonzalez, guitarist Sergio Vallin and bassist Juan have continued success and made a huge difference.
Among their Foundation's projects are; planting trees in Latin American countries that have suffered deforestation, championing of an education project, funding and supervising harvesting camps for endangered turtles, lobbying governments to protect other imperiled species and providing financial support for communities that have suffered natural disasters. Mana – which closely translated means 'good energy' in Polynesian - is certainly spreading it.
