NEW YORK (www.cottrellentertainment.com) - Cottrell Entertainment officially announced its return to the music industry today. Cottrell Entertainment founder
Dorothy Joiner-Boyd has made a major staff overhaul, discovering new resources for executive talent.
"For many years, we were in the passenger seat while [Kenny] Gamble, [Leon] Huff and others were in the driver's seat, determining what direction the industry took," said Anthony Joiner, the new President of Artist Management at Cottrell Entertainment.
"Now, with our new staff and artists, we believe that we are poised to become a driving force in the hip-hop, pop and underground music communities.
"The challenge in returning to the music industry after a multiple-decade absence in finding the correct genre and getting ahead of the curve. With our new head of A&R, Damien Sims, and our Director of Public Relations and Marketing, Mary Parks, we have tapped a youthful vein, bringing "fresh blood" into what had been an aging company. We will be bringing an updated look to our website and our press materials. This look will reflect the new direction in which we are going."
Along with announcing the changes within Cottrell Entertainment, Joiner also announced the first artist signed to a management contract by Cottrell Entertainment.
Maurice Cooper, a rapper who performs under the name "Jaedott," exhibits a willingness to work hard at developing his craft, and a desire to achieve a level of excellence that many aspire to, but few are able to achieve. What sets him apart is his belief that he can be that "one-in-a-million" artist who can reach that otherwise unattainable degree of excellence.
In regards to Jaedott, Sims stated that he believed that "[Jaedott] re-defines hip-hop as we know it. Some compare him to 50 Cent, or other rappers of that caliber, but we are so confident in his skills and ability to provide a real experience to the listener that we are willing to give him [this] opportunity to be at the forefront of the industry."
Cooper, has been writing rap/hip-hop songs since the age of seven, and two years ago, at the age of 20, started performing in various public venues. A regular at such Philly hotspots as South Street Rhythm and Blues, Club Envy, The Southern Inn, and more, Jaedott has "kicked his game to the next level" by putting out an independant album, "Every Dolla I Got." Not afraid of hard work, Jaedott markets his album directly to the listener on the streets of Philadelphia. That hard work has not only paid off in a management contract with Anthony Joiner of Cottrell Entertainment, but also airtime on 97.7 FM, a Philadelphia underground radio station, and a growing grassroots listener base.
"Quite frankly, Jaedott's example was a big part of our decision to return to the industry. With the determination that he exhibits, both in the studio and in everyday life, we at Cottrell Entertainment are certain that Jaedott will succeed as a hip-hop artist in today's climate. Not only does he have the skills as an artist, but his determination and effort are an example to those young adults desiring to break into the industry."
