KANSAS CITY, MO. (Top40 Charts) - Californian rapper Mac Dre from Vallejo, died early Monday morning in a highway shooting Monday in Kansas City, Mo.

According to the Police someone fired a gun into the van in which he was riding early Monday morning on U.S. Highway 71. Mac Dre was thrown from the van but died of gunshot wounds.

Mac Dre who's real name was Andre Hick, 34, was from Vallejo,CA. He made his rap debute in 1989 with the Young Black Brotha EP. Hicks was one of the pioneers of Bay Area rap and one of the guys who put Vallejo on the map.
He started a record label, Thizz Entertainment, and dreamed of hiring and mentoring teenagers he could steer away from the trouble he knew so well. His albums - like this year's "Ronald Dregan: Dreganomics" - began mining political themes.
He has released some 20 albums in his career.

Another Vallejo rapper, Dubee, also was injured in the incident and was in intensive care.
