"Each one of these charitable organizations provides a life-changing service to a wide range of people in our community," said Terri Hitchcock, CEO of Star-Power.org, a start-up celebrity social media company that helps celebrities use social media to do good for the world through their StarPower reach.
That's why the StarPower team is so committed to help these charities raise money over the holidays for local orphans, foster and homeless children (Safety Harbor Kids), to support our troops (Cops4Causes/Heroes Helping Heroes), to restore music programs in America's public schools (VH1's Save the Music), and to provide funding for a network of professionals with first responder skill-sets who assist experts when natural disasters strike (Reach Out WorldWide). The organization was founded by the late Paul Walker from the 'Fast & Furious' in response to the massive earthquakes that devastated Haiti in January 2010. Although Paul Walker is not with us today, Cody Walker, his brother, is keeping Paul's dream alive at Reach Out Worldwide (ROWW).
"With the holidays approaching, we thought a fundraising campaign that asked everyone to sing a holiday carol, record it, upload it to social media and tag it #SingWithTheStars would be a fun way to get everyone into the spirit of giving," said Matt Heisie, COO of StarPower. "We've just launched and we're already getting some pretty amazing videos like the outstanding performance by the Gay Men's Choir of Los Angeles 'Hanukkah in
Santa Monica."
Since the fundraiser revolves around music and video, StarPower chose to use the crowdfunding platform RocketHub. Last summer, RocketHub partnered with A&E to launch Project Startup. The partnership is intended to support a new wave of entrepreneurs and innovative thinkers to help bring their businesses to life through crowdfunding. For more information, visit rockethub.com/news.
