LOS ANGELES (Geffen Records) - Mos Def's highly-anticipated sophomore solo release, The New Danger (Goodtree Media/ Geffen Records), debuted at No 5 on today's Billboard Top 200 Album Chart. The release, which hit record stores on October 12th, marks his first collection of original material since 1999's Black On Both Sides. Recorded at Longview Studios in North Brookfield, MA and The Cutting Room in New York City, the album features 18 new songs including "Sex, Love and Money," the first single. A video for the single was shot by director Paul Hunter in New York City last week.

Since its release, The New Danger has been met with praise from both fans and critics alike. Rolling Stone gave the album 4 stars and declared Mos Def "dazzingly talented," while USA Today said Mos Def is "an inventive and versatile rapper," and with "energetic forays into rock, blues, jazz and old-school R&B, Mos Def busts loose from rap's usual sonic confines." XXL proclaimed, "from distorted, lo-fi rock and rhythmic pounding soul to raucous fuck-you punk style, Mos holds nothing back on his creative journey."

Mos Def kicked off the release of The New Danger with a series of high-profile performances on The Late Show With David Letterman, The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and The Jimmy Kimmel Show.
He is currently out on a small club run in support of his new album. Following the club tour, Mos will return back to New York City's Blue Note for the "Another Side" series where he will perform with his jazz quintet on November 3rd,4th and 5th.

In addition to the album, Mos Def recently finished work on the Disney film The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which will hit theaters in 2005. Def's next motion picture release, The Woodsman is set for release on December 24th, 2004.
