New York, NY (Top40 Charts) With the growing trend of digitization and networking, copyrighted works such as music are distributed across borders, and smartphones and tablets make it possible for consumers to enjoy them regardless of time and location.
Massive amounts of copyrighted works are now available on the Internet, making it much more convenient for consumers, and while platform operators develop new services, there are concerns that fair remuneration is not necessarily returned to the creators of those works.
For the sustainable development of emerging contents businesses, forging a partnership between the creators who create copyrighted works and platform operators who distribute those works is essential. Establishing such a partnership has also become one of the main themes discussed in the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC), to which 230 authors' societies in 120 countries and regions around the world are affiliated. Do fair remuneration for creators and the development of new digital distribution businesses mix? What can collective management organizations do to build a socially rational model that balances the interests of creators and users?
In March 2014, commemorating the 75th anniversary of its foundation, JASRAC held a symposium titled "The Roles to be Played by Collective Management Organization" where invited university professors and lawyers examined these issues from a legal and institutional perspective. This time, JASRAC invites representatives of CISAC's creators' councils to voice their opinions on how future business models should be from the creators' point of view.
