NEW YORK (AP) - Rhino has compiled 136 tracks -- 64 of which were No. 1 R&B and pop hits -- for the six-CD box set "Can You Dig It? The '70s Soul Experience," due Oct. 16. The set features familiar hits from Marvin Gaye (" Let's Get It On"), Isaac Hayes ("Theme from Shaft"), Bill Withers (" Lean On Me"), and LaBelle, whose " Lady Marmalade" has recently been turned into an international smash cover version by Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mya & Pink. Other tracks featured on "Can You Dig It?" are Curtis Mayfield's "Freddie's Dead (Theme from 'Superfly'"), the Temptations' "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone," the Spinners' "Could It Be I'm Falling In Love," the Chi-Lites "Have You Seen Her," and Betty Wright's "Clean Up Woman." Cuts can also be found from Al Green, the Isley Brothers, Kool & the Gang, Smokey Robinson, the Pointer Sisters, and many more. The set will be packaged in a box designed to look like an 8-track tape case, along with a 100-page book featuring a track-by-track annotation and a glossary of '70s slang terms.
