NEW YORK (www.midem.com newsletter) - The 39th edition of MIDEM, the world's music market, (23-27 January 2005, Palais des Festivals, Cannes), will continue to focus on new revenue streams that are creating more business for the music industry and will feature a special new "Live" day, on Wednesday January 26.
The day-long session, entitled "Live Music Network," will propose a series of conferences and create a business platform which will bring together professionals from the traditional live music sector (promoters, agents, artist managers etc.), labels and new sectors (new technology, merchandising etc.).
New too this year will be the "International Indie Summit." Independent labels and the associations that represent them, will be getting to grips with the opportunities that the changing music market offers and how best to take advantage of them. What is the position of independent labels confronted by the major company mergers? How can they protect their interests in this environment? How to develop international collaboration between indie trade associations?
These are just some of the questions that will be discussed during the panels.
Reaffirming its commitment to its music clients, MIDEM has maintained its price freeze on accreditation rates for the second year running.
Dominique Leguern, MIDEM Director notes, "MIDEM is the only international event where you can meet people from all areas of the core music industry and from sectors newly involved in music. Our role is to offer our clients as many business opportunities as possible, generated by these new sectors. Our decision to maintain the price freeze is natural given the current challenges facing the industry."
The sixth edition of MidemNet, the music and technology forum, will take place on the day preceding MIDEM, January 22 and will once again bring together key players from new technology sectors. Following MidemNet 2004's appraisal of the new success of online music sales, the 2005 edition will focus on how to turn this promise into concrete sales growth. The key themes addressed will be: "The next wave of music services," "New business opportunities for indies," "Do superdistribution and secure peer-to-peer solutions have what it takes to be viable business models," "The Interoperability of services and music file types" and "Free music from big brands."
For the second year running, Mobile music will be highlighted in the "Mobile Music Forum" panels on January 23, and "Music for Images" presents a targeted conference uniting leading specialists from the fields of synchronisation for cinema, video games and advertising.
